Civil engineering is a multifaceted industry that covers many areas of work. Whether laying fibreglass in the city or laying drainage pipes on a sports field, civil engineering is a generic term that connects all these topics. But the more general and comprehensive the tasks that a company has to cope with, the more versatile the machines and equipment that have to be used. In the following, we at Lingener Baumaschinen would like to introduce you to just such a machine and give you an idea of why a trencher should not be missing from the fleet of a civil engineering company.
Versatile use in civil engineering
As already mentioned, it is advisable to have a trencher at hand in civil engineering. But why is that so? Many people ask themselves this question, especially if an excavator is also often available in the yard. But many unfortunately underestimate the efficiency of the trencher, especially when it comes to laying cables.
Probably the most decisive difference lies in the working time. On average, a trencher can cover three times the distance of an excavator in one day. This means that you would need three excavators to cover the same distance per hour as a trencher.
Furthermore, trenchers manage to dig a cleaner and, above all, more robust trench than excavators can. This is because the chain of the trencher literally „cuts“ a trench. So there is less vibration in the earth, which in turn makes for a more stable trench.
Another point is the facility with which the cables can be laid after trenching. We like to call this „all in one“. What we mean by this is very simple. It is possible to equip the trencher with attachments so that trenching, laying and compacting can be done in one step. After the trencher has dug the trench, the desired cables can be inserted directly into the ground through a laying shaft, without having to employ an employee. Afterwards, the excavated material deposited on the sides can simply be thrown back into the trench and the cable is laid.
This not only saves time, but also costs, as fewer employees are needed on a construction site.
It's all in the mix when it comes to civil engineering
For those who already have an excavator or tractor and would like to use it, but do not want to do without the advantages of the trencher, we naturally do not want to let them down either. We have developed our attachments for these customers. A trencher that can be attached to excavators and tractors and is driven by the hydraulic power of the carrier. Depending on the model you want to have, the weight of the machine, the required hydraulic power of the carrier etc. will vary. But of course we will discuss all this with you in detail if you decide to buy such a machine.
Our machines are especially popular for working on tracks, as they can be attached to the excavator and then pulled alongside the track. The excavator hardly exerts any force, while the trencher pulls a trench at the edge of the track. But of course a trencher can also be hitched to a tractor for field work or used for civil engineering work in the city.
Trenchers as civil engineering support
Hopefully we have been able to give you some idea of why a trencher might be a good choice for a future investment in your fleet. Especially in times when fibre optic laying plays such a big role in civil engineering. We would be happy to be your partner when it comes to trenchers. You want to see the advantages of the trencher with your own eyes? No problem! Call us for a demonstration and see for yourself. Of course, we will also be happy to advise you on any other open questions and look forward to hearing from you.
